Team Cornwall Mayor & Council Golf Tourney Raises over $21,500.00
3 + 1 Project 2010

November 2009 (Cornwall, Ontario) The 3+1 Project 2010 scores after receiving $11,000 from the Mayor/Council and Team Cornwall Golf Tournament. The sold out event was held in September with more than 140 people swinging their clubs at Summer Heights Golf Links. Local duffers were encouraged to bring guests from other communities for the fun event which celebrated its fifth year under the current format. Communities from across Ontario and Quebec and parts of the US were represented with the guest list including former NHL star Ray Sheppard. "We're pleased to contribute to Project 2010," said Team Cornwall Chairman Gilles Latour. "We team with the Mayor and City Council and raise funds for various exciting initiatives and this year was no exception." The funds were raised thanks to the generosity of several local businesses who sponsored the event including the tournament's major corporate partner ScotiaBank. 3+1 Project 2010 Chairman Scott Lecky was more than happy to accept the donation. "As we move closer to making the new Sportsplex a reality, this is another sign that it's truly a community project." “Sports facilities are an important piece of the puzzle of what makes a great community," continued Lecky. "In addition to generating a positive economic impact for Cornwall and the surrounding area, this new facility will encourage our citizens to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and most importantly, provide our youth with a ‘world of opportunities’ in athletics.” The fundraising total for 3+1 is nearing $800,000 with the target being $2 Million. The first phase of ground work is already underway on the future site of the Sportplex on a piece of land between 7th Street and 2nd Street in the city's west end. Construction is scheduled to be complete in March 2011. Plans are already underway for the 2010 Mayor/Council and Team Cornwall Golf Tournament.
