Golf Tourney Set for September 17th

The Mayor/Council and Team Cornwall Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, September 17th at Summerheights Golf Links.

This will be the fourth year we have combined our two tournaments, said Gilles Latour, Chair of Team Cornwall. Almost every member of Council and senior City administration is a member of Team Cornwall, and this format has helped make the tournament more of an event.

We are happy to announce that, this year, half of the proceeds will be donated to Hospice Cornwall and half will go to offset the operating costs of Team Cornwall, said Co-Chair Glen Grant, Councillor for the City of Cornwall. The funds will be used to help meet the capital costs of building the hospice and supporting Hospice Cornwalls current Its never too late to care campaign. This format will allow us to continue our tradition of giving back to the community, while at the same time helping Team Cornwall fund various initiatives throughout the year.

The new hospice is part of Carefors (formally VON) long-term vision to provide end-of-life palliative care with dignity in a home-like facility. The development of a Hospice in our community serves as an important addition and the final link to the health care facilities available in our community.

We understand that the Mayor/Council and Team Cornwall Golf Tournament organizers have many options to choose in terms of which cause to support, said Jean Courville, Executive Director of Carefor. Their decision to support the new hospice this year comes at such a critical time as our volunteer committee members are actively fundraising to ensure that we get the shovel in the ground this Fall. On behalf of all members of our fundraising cabinet, I wish to sincerely thank Mayor Kilger, members of Council and Team Cornwall for this very generous opportunity.

Scotiabank is returning as the tournaments major supporter. We believe in the objectives of Team Cornwall and are happy to help out, said Diane Dupuis, Manager of Customer Services at Scotiabanks Brookdale Avenue branch.

The tournament will feature a Four Person Best Ball Scramble format with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Registration fees are $125.00 per golfer, which includes 18 holes, cart, and BBQ Steak Dinner. Registration forms can be found on the City of Cornwall and Team Cornwall websites.
