RBC Cup - October 23rd Meeting

Team Cornwall members and guests will hear how hosting the RBC Cup will benefit Cornwall at the organization’s next general meeting on October 23rd.

Cornwall will host the prestigious event from May 3 – 11th, 2008. Considered the Stanley Cup of Canadian Junior A hockey, 140 teams representing 10 Canadian hockey leagues will be battling for the right to play in the championship tournament. As 2008 host team, the Cornwall Colts of the CJHL will be welcoming hockey fans from across Canada to our community.

The RBC Cup will provide a tremendous opportunity for national media exposure for the city. The championship game will be televised on the TSN network, and every game in the tournament will be web cast through Hockey Canada.

How Cornwall can capitalize on the nation-wide exposure will be addressed by guest speaker Rod Schaaf, Ontario North and East Regional President for the RBC Financial Group. RBC has made their expertise, staff and resources available to ensure a successful event.

Host Committee Chair Candy Pollard is excited about bringing the event to Cornwall. “Once again, it’s an opportunity for Cornwall to show our level of community pride,” says Pollard. “In terms of national exposure, the RBC Cup is one of the biggest events that we’ve hosted.”

That enthusiasm is echoed by Team Cornwall Chair Gilles Latour. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for businesses to take the lead from RBC and showcase Cornwall to a national audience,” says Latour.

The luncheon meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 23rd, from 12 noon to 1:30PM in Salons A, B & C at the Cornwall Civic Complex. Admission to the event is $15 per person, and because we have to order food, reservations are required.
