The Mayor/Council and Team Cornwall Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, September 19th at Summerheights Golf Links.

“This will be the third year we have combined our two tournaments,” said Gilles Latour, Chair of Team Cornwall. “Almost every member of Council and senior City administration is a member of Team Cornwall, and this format has helped make the tournament more of an event.”

“We are happy to announce that, once again this year, half of the proceeds will be donated to the Agape Centre and half will go to offset the operating costs of Team Cornwall”, said Co-Chair Glen Grant, Councillor for the City of Cornwall. “The proceeds for the Agape Centre will assist them with their relocation expenses as they continue to get settled in at their new location at 40 Fifth St. West. This format will allow us to continue our tradition of giving back to the community, while at the same time helping Team Cornwall fund various initiatives through out the year.”

The Agape Centre is a non profit organization that helps to ensure that no family in the community goes hungry, or lives without any of the basic necessities of life. Its three main programs include a Food Bank, Soup Kitchen and a Thrift Shoppe.

“We are encouraging golfers to bring non-perishable food items to the course,” said Judy Dancause, Executive Director of the Agape Centre. “We will be having a draw for $250 of free gas, courtesy of John Warden Fuel. Golfers will receive a draw ticket for each non-perishable food item they bring.”

Scotiabank is returning as the tournament’s major sponsor. “We believe in the objectives of Team Cornwall and are happy to help out”, said Earl McBean, Manager of Scotiabank’s Brookdale Avenue branch.

The tournament, which is sold out, will feature a Four Person Best Ball Scramble format with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m.
