Bravo Cornwall!

Hockeyville Fan It would be easy to give in to despair after our second-place finish in the Hockeyville contest. But that view is like looking through racehorse blinders: all we see is the finish line, and not the hard work we accomplished to get there. After all, we finished second amongst hundreds of contestants, many of which are much larger cities than Cornwall. Let’s take a look at what happened:

  • Christine Lefebvre, Lorne Taillon and our organizing committee did a fantastic job of getting us to the final round of 10, earning a merit prize along the way
  • Cornwall’s media gave up valuable ad space and promoted the event every day; both on-air and in the papers
  • Our businesses put up special signs, employees donned jerseys and banded together like never before
  • Our children experienced what it takes to do well in a national contest, and learned the value of hard work
  • People of all ages, regardless of their knowledge of hockey, got a chance to stand up for Cornwall and be counted
  • Our community received invaluable external exposure, both in Ottawa and across the nation

We do not have the names of everybody and every organization that supported our Hockeyville bid. Surely the list numbers in the thousands, so let us simply say THANK YOU. Your attention, time and effort proved yet again why Cornwall is never a longshot in any race.

In our books, we won much more than we could have ever lost. We came together as a community, we celebrated our heritage and we competed with all our heart. Bravo Cornwall… congratulations on a job well done!
