A Hockeyville Moment
At the heart of Cornwall's bid for the Hockeyville crown is the sense of family and community that the game of hockey has come to represent. And perhaps that spirit is no more evident than the Savard family.
Cornwall lost one of its "mothers" when Irma Savard passed away suddently. It was a shock to all who knew the devoted mother and grandmother. The funeral was held on Thursday, which was Hockeyville day in Cornwall.
After the funeral, family and friends gathered to reminisce and celebrate her life. Before long Hockeyville was mentioned and it took only a moment for everybody to join in.
"Mom would be happy to see the photo. She voted well over 100 times last and was a big supporter of this project", said her son, Chris Savard. "Mom would have been first to don a jersey for our Hockeyville bid, and in her memory we raided my collection of hockey jerseys for the photo. It was a special moment".
