Media Helps Cornwall Spread the Word
It started with an early morning delivery of the Standard-Freeholder. A front page told residents in Cornwall and area that the race was tight - people needed to get out and vote. Indeed, just about every page of the paper had an ad for Cornwall's Hockeyville bid.
Then were tuned to Variety 104.5 and AM 1220, where Wayne Thompson and Chuck Philips were constantly reminding people of the hockeyville deadline, and how they could vote on their sister station website, ROCK1019.com.
All of this before the first rooster crowed!
Then, a special treat. Viewers of the A-Channel in Eastern Ontario were treated to a special plea from Team Cornwall spokesmen Gilles Latour and Bob Peters. Their message was repeated on CFRA, CTV and The Bear.
Before noon all of Eastern Ontario was buzzing, and one of the hotspots was the Cornwall Square, where people lined up at the voting stations set up by Rock 101.9 and Team Cornwall.
As the sun set, and Eastern Ontario's NHL team took the ice in Ottawa, viewers of the Senators game were treated to views of Cornwall fans sporting banners urging people to vote. As one of the TV commentators said "we all should help and vote, after all, the people in Cornwall would do the same for us".
Exposure to over 2 million people in a single day! Thank you to all of the media who have covered our bid!
