Gosling, 26, was born in London, Ontario, but was raised in Cornwall, where he got his start in show business by performing with his sister Mandy at weddings and talent shows. From there, he joined the cast of Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club, which included future stars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Keri Russell. Gosling went on to star in the TV series Breaker High in 1997 and Young Hercules in 1998-99. His big screen debut came in 2000 in the drama Remember The Titans, which was followed by roles in The Believer, Murder By Numbers with Sandra Bullock, and his breakthrough role in 2004, The Notebook with fellow Canadian Rachel McAdams.
In a statement released by his publicist, Gosling said “I have tremendous respect for all the actors in this category and it’s a great honour to be in their company. It’s extremely encouraging to see a small film be recognized at this level. By recognizing me, I feel that it honours everyone I love and for that I am truly grateful.”
The 79th Annual Academy Awards will be televised on February 25th.
